Why are children living abroad afraid to speak Vietnamese as they grow older?

When interviewing and talking with many mothers abroad, we can point out some of the main reasons why older children are afraid to speak Vietnamese when they grow up:

– The vocabulary is small, there are many words that children do not understand and do not know how to express, so speaking Vietnamese makes me focus on thinking —> tired, so I am more afraid to speak.

– Apart from my Vietnamese parents (or occasionally talking to my grandparents), I don’t have anyone to speak Vietnamese with which they speak less and less and lead to being very afraid to speak later.

– Don’t talk about your favorite topics in Vietnamese, so you don’t have any interest in talking.

– I also do not understand the meaning and profound effect of why I need to learn Vietnamese.

In addition, each family with their own circumstances has other reasons that contribute to making their children’s learning Vietnamese increasingly difficult.

Understanding that, our team has built THE LITTLE GIONG READING AND DRAMA CLUB on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month to create a Vietnamese practice community for our children. Each assembly she introduces a story, poem, or poem story in Vietnamese to help children learn new words, new structures, the meaning of the story, and think about issues around that topic in Vietnamese.

They hope that through each activity, they will find Vietnamese very close and cute and we will learn useful things together.
